KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has secured ownership of the registration number plate 'GOLD 1' after placing a winning bid of RM1.5 million for the special number. This bid is believed to be the highest in the country's history for a registration plate. Interestingly, this isn't the first time Sultan Ibrahim has broken records for expensive registration plates. Previously, he paid RM1.2 million for the registration plate 'FF1'.

The announcement was made via a post on Sultan Ibrahim's official Instagram page, stating that the special 'GOLD 1' license plate now belongs to His Majesty and the proceeds from the bid will be channeled to the federal government⁶. During an audience at the Istana Negara, Transport Minister Anthony Loke symbolically presented the special license plate to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The special 'GOLD' series was unveiled on January 30, celebrating the 50th Federal Territory Day. The initiative aims to fund several projects, including distributing helmets to motorcyclists and contributing to the Social Security Organization for taxi drivers. This remarkable acquisition adds a touch of prestige to Sultan Ibrahim's collection of unique and valuable license plates.
