French oil major TotalEnergies and UK power firm SSE have joined forces to create a new major player in the electric vehicle (EV) charging market in the UK and Ireland. The joint venture, named "Source," aims to capture a 20% share of the market within the next five years.

 Key Highlights:

1. Infrastructure Deployment:

   - Source will deploy up to 3,000 high-power charge points in both countries.

   - These charge points will be grouped into 300 "EV hubs" located in prime urban areas.

   - The charging hubs will offer fast and reliable charging, meeting the needs of EV owners and fleet operators.

2. Renewable Energy:

   - The charging hubs will be powered by renewable energy provided by SSE and TotalEnergies.

   - Several hubs are already under construction, with plans for more in development studies.

3. Decarbonization Goals:

   - In the UK, Source will contribute to meeting the 2035 zero vehicle emissions mandate for new cars and vans.

   - In Ireland, it will help accelerate the government's target of placing nearly 1 million electric vehicles on roads by 2030.

4. TotalEnergies' Commitment:

   - TotalEnergies already operates the Source London network with 2,600 charge points in the capital.

   - The joint venture aligns with TotalEnergies' ambition to deploy over 1,000 high-power charging sites across Europe by 2028.

Mathieu Soulas, Senior Vice President of New Mobilities at TotalEnergies, expressed pride in contributing to electric mobility and decarbonization efforts. The goal is to offer a nationwide, ultra-fast, and reliable charging service for both passenger cars and fleets.

Source's launch represents a significant step toward a greener transportation future in the UK and Ireland, combining renewable energy and cutting-edge charging infrastructure.
